My Agenda vs What's Really Important

Recently I made a commitment to start my days a little earlier.  To give myself some time in the morning to breathe + enjoy quiet and get in the Word + pray before the girls are up.  These girls, I think they know, and have a made a commitment of their own.  Gah!

So this morning after having MY quiet time (read agenda) interrupted again I was feeling pretty crabby.  Thoughts like, “Lord, this is not going to work.  I cannot handle this.  We are not doing this every morning.” were storming through my head as I cuddle to sleepy girls on the couch.

After some eggs + grits for everyone, packing Michael’s lunch + sending him out the door, and getting half of us dressed I sat down to get back to the Word while the girls play.  That’s when Jesus reminded me that this life I’m living really isn't about my agenda.  It’s about Him.  About honoring Michael.  About loving these little girlies well.  And about bringing the message of the Gospel to the world.

And now the LORD says,
He who formed me from the
Womb to be his servant,
To bring Jacob back to him;
And that Israel might be gathered to him—
For I am honored in the eyes of the LORD,
And my God has become my strength—

I will make you as a light for the nations,
That my salvation may reach to the ends of the earth.
Isaiah 49:5,6b

Yes, getting in the Word is of utmost importance.  But being ok with it not looking like what I think it should look like is pretty darn important too.

  1. i love that God is big enough to give us strength to live in the imperfect realities of life. i also love that you had the courage to write down and share your goals for the year. i hope you have a delightful time in completing them. i also love that one of them is writing a blog because it encourages and inspires me!
